Trust me when I lie

My Mom was always suspicious of me when I was growing up. If she heard about something bad happening in the neighborhood, like a broken window, egg on a door, someone died, she would always ask if I had anything to do with it.
I knew I had to be honest when I answered. If I lied and she had to find out on her own that I did throw an egg at a door that resulted in someone’s death, the punishment would be twice as harsh.
Mom’s today are way too trusting of their children. When something bad happens in the neighborhood now, Moms will say that there is no way my angel could have done something so heinous.
I want to know how these delinquents are fooling their Moms today and why I didn’t know how to do it when I was young.
