True story: I met a lady who introduced herself as an advocate for the homeless. She insisted, quite passionately, that the homeless should be referred to as “unhoused". She explained that the word “homeless” was just too demeaning and the word “unhoused” was more compassionate. If you missed it the first time, she introduced herself as an advocate for the 'homeless'.

I said, "I think the unhoused need more advocates for the homeless just like you."

I excused myself from the conversation and walked away. But I did learn two things that day. First, apparently it is O.K. to call them homeless if you are advocating for them. Second, some advocates are not that good at doing their jobs.
