I collect old books. None of them are worth much, but I like history. Reading what someone wrote 150 years ago gives me some insight into what people were thinking about back then. Spoiler alert, it’s the same things we think about today.

I bought an old book that was written in German from an antique store. It was the size of an empty wallet, and the pages were dog eared and wrinkled. The condition of the book indicated that whoever read this book read it more than once. This book must have been of great interest to the previous owner. I cannot read German, but my curiosity was peaked. I figured I could look up a few of the words written in the book to find out what made the book worth reading more than once.

I took the book home and typed a couple of the German words from the book onto my computer and pressed enter. Up popped a few dozen links that were written in German. I clicked on the first one and it connected me a German gay porn site. That was a surprise. I must have picked the wrong words out of the book. I turned to another page and typed in a few German words again, clicked on another link and I ended up on another German gay porn site. This time, the men were wearing leather and dog collars. That was a bigger surprise.

I was beginning to understand what the previous owner found so interesting in this book.

I do not display this German porn alongside my other books. I would be embarrassed if someone found it. I made some room for it under my mattress, and I keep it there.
