A hand-up not a hand-out true story

I saw a young man begging for money while stopped at a red light. I noticed something about him, and I felt I really needed to give him some advice. I waved him over to my car. I rolled down my window and said, “If you are going to beg for money, don’t wear a pair of two-hundred-dollar Nikes. And it might help to dirty up that polo shirt a little.” Instead of being upset about not getting any money, he told me that was a good idea. He said thank you and walked away. I drove away and it dawned on me. What I should have done was ask him for money. He was better dressed than I was.
